ACTIVE PROJECTS

Education -- Every spring ACRA identifies the needs to support and improve the middle and high schools in the south Chad UN camps. CRF/FRI reviews those recommendations, adjusts their scope to the resources available (which depend on its annual internet fund raising), negotiates its preferences with ACRA and makes an annual grant somewhere between $70-100,000. The
support of these schools generally involves financing teacher training, augmenting teacher and administrative salaries, buying books for libraries, training mothers and parents associations, providing wheelchair tricycles for handicapped students and constructing auxiliary facilities (fences, quarters for watchmen). The annual grant also provides for monitoring and evaluating the execution of the annual program.

Refugee initiatives – In early 2023 we changed the method of initiative selection so that now it is done in Chad by a committee with members representing refugees, our partner ACRA, the UN and the Chadian government. We hope that this localization will be a step to full de-colonization where selection and monitoring projects will be completely in the hands of the refugees themselves. We budget $30,000 a year to support selected initiatives.
